Frequently Asked Questions

What is PRI?

PRI stands for Postural Restoration Institute — an established approach that recognizes a simple truth: none of us is built symmetrically. Your organs, your diaphragm, even the way you breathe all lean to one side. Usually that's no problem. But when your body gets stuck in those patterns, it can show up as pain, tension, and restricted movement. PRI uses breathing and specific positional exercises to restore balance, so you can move freely again.

How is this different from physical therapy or personal training?

I'm trained in both worlds — I'm a certified Athletic Trainer and personal trainer who's gone deep into PRI coursework. Most approaches treat the spot that hurts. PRI looks at the whole pattern your body is stuck in and addresses the cause underneath the symptom. That's why it often helps people who've gotten temporary relief elsewhere but never lasting change.

Do I need a referral to book?

No referral needed — you can book directly. That said, I work closely with dentists, airway specialists, and other providers, so if you're already seeing someone, PRI can complement the care you're getting.

What happens in a session?

Your first visit is an assessment: we talk through your concerns and history, then I watch how you move with simple, non-invasive tests. From there I guide you through gentle, breathing-based exercises — nothing aggressive, no cracking or forceful stretching. You'll leave with a short daily routine to maintain your progress between visits.

Will it hurt?

No. PRI exercises are gentle and low-effort. They can feel unusual at first because you're using your body in new ways, but they shouldn't be painful.

How many sessions will I need?

It varies by person and goal. Many people notice changes early — sometimes after the first session — and we reassess as we go to keep the plan on track. Typically individuals feel a change around the 4th appointment.

Do you accept insurance?

Insurance isn't accepted. PRI sessions are a focused, one-on-one service, and paying directly means your time is spent entirely on you rather than on insurance requirements. Payment is by cash, check, Zelle, or card (a 2% processing fee applies to card payments).

What should I wear?

Comfortable clothing you can move and breathe easily in — think what you'd wear to a workout or a stretch session.

Where are sessions held?

At two locations — inside Boulder Valley Asthma & Allergy in Boulder, and inside Thrive Breathing + Sleep in Lafayette. I also offer in-home sessions throughout Boulder County for a $20 travel fee.

Is PRI right for me?

If you're dealing with recurring pain, one-sided tension, jaw or breathing issues, or movement that just doesn't feel free — especially if other approaches haven't given you lasting relief — it's worth a conversation. Not sure if it's a fit? Reach out and I'll tell you honestly whether PRI is a good match for what you're dealing with.
